Akairi Sumeragi
SUBHUMAN, pureblood
FEMALE
TWENTY-FOUR
HETEROSEXUAL
FLIGHTER & A’LYRE
NOVEMBER FIFTH
HEALER’S TOUCH
APPEARANCE
Akairi’s eyes are generally the feature first drawn to upon meeting, a soft azure blue. Under the influence of her technopathy, the colour turned a more vibrant shade of blue-green, almost glowing like the technology she is manipulating. Her eyes are generally framed by her bangs, which are cut at various to suit her face. Her hair is probably as distinctive as the blue of her eyes, platinum blonde in colour with a tint of pink. When left down, her hair falls to about her hip. Her signature style are two loose braids at the front, with the rest of her hair let loose. When in flight she ties her hair back into a neat ponytail to prevent it from tangling with the equipment inside the cockpit.
She can be considered petite and slender for her age, coming to a mere 5’3. Her long legs and delicate bone structure gives her the appearance of being taller than she actually is and this is usually augmented by the heeled boots she wears. At the peak of her physical form, she possesses an agile grace that enables her to move with great speed and flexibility that can be likened to a cat. Deceptively weak in appearance, Akairi certainly packs a punch when aggravated even though she does prefer keeping her opponents at bay with pure speed and her weapons.
Despite being a lover of the outdoors, her skin is pale and she burns easily if she forgets to wear sunscreen.
Style-wise, Akairi is most comfortable wearing a simple black off-the shoulder top, shorts/skirt and knee-high black boots combination. She honestly isn’t too fussed about what she wears so long as it doesn’t hinder her movements. Her wardrobe tends to only coordinate between her casual style and her officer uniform, with most items being comfortable to fight in if called for.
Her weapon of choice is a wicked looking gunblade, a unique weapon designed specifically for her that is the fusion between a gun and a sword. The weapon itself can only be used by her or a fellow technopath to unlock the different forms from sword to gun. For the sake of convenience, it remains in its gun forms most of the time as she prefers long-range combat.
As a technopath, she never leaves her home without her phone and a hidden blade or two on her person (usually strapped to the thigh or upper arm) from years of paranoia. Senbon are another useful item to have in her inventory, cleverly disguised as pretty hair pieces.

PERSONALITY
MAIN POWERS: Healer’s Touch and Technopathy
SECOND HAND ABILITIES: Enhance Reflexes, Pain Suppression & Weapon Summoning
• SKILLS: Akairi is a skilled combat trained medic in both conventional first-aid and her Healer’s Touch ability. Like the name implies, it is a healing touch and most basic ability any Healer should have. Upon activation, her eyes and hand starts to glow an emerald green as it hovers over the wound allowing cuts to seal, scar tissue to regenerate, repair fractures in the bone etc. It requires a lot of concentration. Small injuries heal faster than larger ones, obviously and generally it can only be used on one person at a time.
Her technopathy allows her to manipulate technology at will. This ability is very helpful when it comes to tracking down Manors and gathering intelligence on the fly – phones do carry so much information after all.
• PERSONALITY: Assertive and competitive, she isn’t one to take second best nor will she tolerate being trodden into the mud like yesterday’s news. She was born with the natural drive to win and strives to do her best in anything and everything she attempts. This attitude leads to the common misconception that she is, in fact, perfect however this isn’t the case – Akairi just doesn’t like to voice her failures and if she does fail she will continue to pursue the subject until she has mastered it no matter how long it takes. She’s too stubborn to give in.
It isn’t rare to find her chewing the ear off one of the Manor Hunters for some reckless stunt and only afterwards will she finally heal them, tending to both their original wounds and the ones she had given them. Akairi adores them all in all honesty, but she often becomes exasperated with the antics they get up to, forced to knock some sense into them. It doesn’t appear that the message has set in though, as Akairi almost always fusses and pampers them afterwards – but a total tyrant when it comes to maintaining the health of the hunters.
Even though she acts like one of the boys, her lack of testosterone often makes her the voice (or fists) of reason amongst disputes between the male members of their small group. Temperamental she may be, she is used to working under pressure and rarely allows her emotions to cloud her judgement when it comes to things that matter. In her field, acting rashly could often lead to the loss of a patient. Akairi’s not afraid to step up against group decisions if they seem illogical, often resorting to other methods to convince them not to.
Her pride and stubborn nature could be considered her weakest points. She’ll push herself continuously to her limits in her quest to perfect something, oftentimes wearing her body down until she becomes ill. Due to past trauma, Akairi refuses to show weakness and will continue on like nothing is wrong even though she is exhausted to the bone. It is a similar situation in a fight between the hunters and manors, Akairi will take care of someone else’s wellbeing before her own, always making sure that she has enough stamina left for emergency healing and will spare only the tiniest amount for herself. She is no good as a Medic if she’s unconscious on the field.
At work, she holds herself in a more professional manner and disciplined manner. As second-in-command, she still retains the instinct to do what is best for her team, and will argue against anyone who tries to say otherwise. Akairi prefers to be up in the air rather than on the ground, but has proven herself as an effective leader when Avaron is otherwise indispensable. Her technopath abilities help her connect with the control centre and allows her access to ongoing data that allows her to make the calls she needs to bring her people home safely.
She has an explosive temper when set off, after all, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. As a woman in a predominantly male field, she cannot stand to be patronised she absolutely hates it when she feels like she’s being looked down upon on causing her to issue a challenge. Akairi’s also one to hold a mean grudge, so scorn her once and expect retaliation to follow swiftly and repaid in full. It would take a lot of grovelling before she would finally let go of a grudge. It was once theorised that her temperamental side came from her healer’s ability which allowed her to take up someone’s most tainted thoughts, but that has since been disproven as Akairi has practically mastered her gift and yet is still prone to bouts of anger.
However nothing gets her angrier than Manors. Having already lost one sibling and her best friend to them, she has vowed vengeance on the entire race and seeks to bring them in. Her ‘protective’ attitude towards the other Hunters is partly due to this, she’s afraid of losing one of them to the Manors which is why she would never refuse any of them treatment when they come to her injured (she would still slap them around a bit though). But Akairi understands that all of them have their own reasons for hunting the Manors and she wouldn’t begrudge them of their chance to bring the Manors to justice. Akairi always makes sure that her hospital wing is open and free when she knows that one of her boys are going on a mission, knowing that the only thing she can do is to make sure they survive to live another day.
• FRIENDSHIPS AND RELATIONSHIPS: Akairi is furiously protective of her friends, to the point of mother-henning at times. She can’t stand to see her loved ones hurt and has been known to be somewhat clingy once a friendship is born, which stems from her fear of losing them.
Relationship-wise, she has dated a few people in the past, with nothing serious borne from her ex-lovers. She needs someone who challenges her both intellectually and physically, but also understands that she is married to both her day and night job. Something which her past lovers failed to understand, leading to a breakdown in the relationship.
That’s not to say Akairi doesn’t enjoy letting her hair down once in a while and is an unapologetic flirt when she finds someone she’s attracted to physically.

HISTORY
Akairi Sumeragi was born the youngest of two elder male siblings and the only daughter of Serena and Eiji Sumeragi. Her mother was a respected technopath in the Research and Development section of the Subhuman Government while her father was a high-ranking officer in the SubArmy, it was only logical that their children would follow in their footsteps.
It came to no surprise that she was spoiled and pampered in her first few years by her brothers and father, Akairi aspiring to become as strong a woman as her mother was even as a little girl. She took after her in strange quirky ways, but it fast became a common sight to see Akairi bossing her older brothers and being as scary as a two year old could be. Her brothers Miharu and Mikhail, whom were twins and three years older than her, just didn’t have the heart to tell her she wasn’t all that scary so they played along with it. They were amused at their younger sister and the often ridiculous and out-landish things she tried to challenge them in just to prove her superiority. Most of the time they let her win, but they still had their pride and would steal a few victories ever now and then. A pouting Akairi was always cute.
Concerned with her daughter’s lack of interaction with her own gender, Serena insisted on setting up play dates between Akairi and the daughter of her best friend, Nanami Zuka who was only two years older than her. At first she was hesitant around the other girl, but they tentatively struck up a friendship when Akairi defended Nanami from the neighbourhood bully, their relationship only flourishing from there. Definitely the louder of the two, it was often Akairi getting into trouble with Nanami being the voice of reason.
Tragedy struck the family when she was five. Her mother suddenly collapsed during the middle of her brothers’ ninth birthday celebration and was immediately rushed to hospital. No one was sure of the reason for Serena’s collapse, but anyone could tell it was serious. She was immediately hospitalised as the doctors ran further tests, still baffled by her mysterious illness. No one, not even the best of the best could figure out just what was wrong with her. Serena’s condition deteriorated quickly despite the treatment she received, much to the distress of Akairi and her siblings. They could only stand by and watch helplessly as their mother succumbed to the disease, passing away just days after Akairi’s sixth birthday.
Distraught and grief-stricken as she was over her mother’s death, she followed her father’s example and put on a strong front to her concerned classmates and Nanami – but she had the feeling that her best friend could see right through her. She had seen how their mother’s death affected her brothers and she was just too damn stubborn to let anyone see her looking so weak. It didn’t stop her from seeking solace from her Miharu and Mikhail in the safety of their own home though.
Without Serena around anymore, the family had to learn how to move on without her. Akairi was forced to grow up faster without her mother around, taking up household jobs which originally belong to Serena. She had taken her death particularly hard, now more determined than ever to become a person her mother would be proud of. She became notably more ferocious, unwilling to let anyone to step over her and even convincing Miharu and Mikhail to allow her to join their martial arts classes. Even they became frightened of the fiery little girl as they watched her rise through the ranks and learn technique after technique. Even at the age of nine, she was not someone to be trifled with.
She had first unlocked her power at the age of ten, though a tad disappointed she had not inherited her mother’s technopathic powers, she learnt to be excited about her Healer’s touch. She was not been allowed to harness it until she was thirteen due to the potentially dangerous side effect of the ability which even at that age was still rather young. Akairi was very persuasive however, and even her father could not resist her pleading.
The first time she used her power to properly heal a child with a broken wrist. Despite the drain it caused her, Akairi had been extremely ecstatic when she had been successful, now more than convinced of what she wanted to do when she was older. The problem was deciding between becoming a doctor or a healer, or maybe even both. She studied the human anatomy vigorously, her mind soaking up the information like a sponge and she was always eager to tell her brothers about some fascinating fact she had learned, which would in turn cause them to turn green. She also practiced her power a lot, oftentimes pushing herself pass her limits to the brink of exhaustion. The positive side was that she was learning quickly what she could and could not do as well as improving on her ability to use it effectively.
As they grew older, Akairi noticed that the distance between her and Nanami were growing more and more, and it was understandable seeing as she was younger than her and Nanami had her own friends. She regretted the distance as Nanami had been the closest female friend she had, but it couldn’t be help. She did admit to being a tad jealous when she was introduced to Nanami’s boyfriend, Kei Sinclair, only because she now felt that it had driven more of a wedge between them. Akairi did eventually accept their relationship, reasoning that if Nanami was happy than she was happy too.
It didn’t stop her from threatening Kei with bodily harm and other unmentionables should he ever hurt her friend, which at the time was probably a comical sight at the time considering that he had been sixteen and she was ten – almost eleven.
Shunojiski Academy was like a dream come true for a mind as inquisitive as hers. Akairi divided her spare time between homework and hospital visits. The first year past quickly without any mishaps and she often saw Nanami hanging around the campus with Kei, giving her and Akairi more time to catch up when they could spare it. As an extension of that, she would also hang around Kei and his friendship circle, striking a tentative friendship with the future Subhuman leader. It seemed that all was well, but little did she know it was merely the calm before the storm.
Nanami died almost at the end of her first year at Shunojiski, murdered by the Manor leader or so she had been informed. It didn’t take her much to figure that Kei was the reason behind her friend’s death. Nanami had been the closest to Kei after all… Akairi was grief stricken and angry, furious that the other girl had to die so young. A lot of her blame fell on Kei and the Manors, but she was also angry at herself. If she had stopped their relationship before it could fully bud, this never would have happened. Akairi pretty much locked herself in her room until it came to Nanami’s funeral. The whole procession had been sad and painful, and it would have been the first time that Akairi cried in public ever since her own mother’s death. She saw Kei at the funeral of course, and planned to confront him about Nanami along with the vengeance she had sworn should he ever hurt her. Kei might not have played an active role in Nanami’s death, but she would be damned if she hadn’t been hurt because of him. It was his fault.
Her resolve broke however when she saw how broken up the male was over the tragic loss, reminding her that she was not that only one who had loved Nanami. If possible Kei was even more devastated over her death and so Akairi decided not to extract revenge, coming to a shaky but mutual understanding with him. The full extent of her anger was turned to the Manors.
Already in the deep end, Akairi was not prepared for the next disaster which occurred merely months after Nanami’s death. She was unexpectedly kidnapped by a group of Manors and held as bait for her older brother Mikhail, a powerful illusionist who’s power was very much desired by the Manor. Akairi had never been so helpless in her life when she was locked up in a dark cellar for a few days and then finally dragged out into the alleyway in which where they were supposed to meet Mikhail. With her as a hostage, Mikhail had no choice but to submit to the Manor and Akairi was horrified as she was forced by one of the Manors to watch them torture and drain her brother’s energy. She would never forget the moment they lit Mikhail’s body on fire. Akairi was then left in the alleyway alone with the charred remains of her brother until they were found.
Akairi may have escaped with only a couple of injuries and severe malnourishment, but the same could not be said for her mentality. Even today the nightmares of that night still haunt her.
Her friends and family expected her to crash and burn much like she had when Nanami had died, but they were shocked when she suddenly threw herself into her studies and even went to Miharu who was working in the Maqna division to request a weapon to defend herself. Miharu knew that it wasn’t wise to give her a weapon so soon after Mikhail’s death, but he also knew that it was Akairi’s way of coping with it so he reluctantly agreed. She was relieved when he did, Akairi never wanted to feel that weak and pathetic ever again and so she poured every bit of herself into her training, fuelled on by the rage she felt towards the Manor race. Her gravitational abilities were unlocked not too long afterwards.
By the time she was eighteen, she already a certified Healer, having used her experience from the hospital as course credit. She tried to settle for a job at the hospital, finding herself growing more restless and angsty as the days passed. Miharu suggested that it may have been from all the trauma she saw day in and day out at her job, which Akairi realised was true. She wanted to be where the action was and in the midst of it all, to feel like she was actually making a difference in the fight against the Manors. She decided to join the Army and returned to Shunojiski Academy to complete her two additional years of training.
During those two years of training, she accidentally unlocked her technopathy powers in a lab accident. Surprised, and overjoyed that she had ended up inheriting that part of her mother after all (something which she had always been jealous of Miharu of), Akairi made the difficult decision of not following in her mother’s footsteps and instead opted to join the Flighters after passing all the required courses and entrance exams with ease. The freedom of flying had always exhilarated her, and now that she got to do it as her job was only a bonus in her eyes.
Her high entrance scores upon acceptance into the Flighters helped fast track her through the lower ranks relatively quick, and as many more missions and experiences went by, Akairi was quick to pick up on tactical command as well as improve her abilities on the field. Her technopathy allowed her to have a deeper connection with the machines, often allowing her to pull off almost impossible manoeuvres without her advantage.
On her twenty-third birthday, she was surprised to be approached by Kei, not as a friend but with a request. He gave her an offer she couldn’t resist – to join the Manor Hunters and protect Shunojiski – and of course she agreed. With her abilities, it was only logical that she would assume the Medic role in the group.
It was easy for her to settle into the group, even as the only female she pretty much acted like one of the guys anyway, until she went into Healer mode that was. Things between her and Kei weren’t as awkward as she thought it would be given that they had not stayed in touch since Nanami’s death, it was a silent understanding that they wouldn’t bring up Nanami. Otherwise she treated him like the rest of the guys whom she had practically adopted as younger (even though they were all older) brothers. Well it wasn’t like they could protest that claim much anyway, she was the one they came running too when they were hurt and injured, and more often than not Akairi found that it was up to her to knock some sense into their thick skulls.
Things with the Flighters continued as was and she found herself constantly busy between the Manor Hunts with the A’lyre, and her everyday job as a Flighter. She continued to rise through the ranks until she found herself in the position of Second in Command at the age of twenty-four under the leadership of Avaron Kirisaki. While she has worked with him in the past countless times, her new position means that she will be seeing him around much more frequently.
