MIHARU SUMERAGI
SUBHUMAN, pureblood
MALE
TWENTY-EIGHT
DEMISEXUAL
MAQUNA HEAD CREATOR
SEPTEMBER TENTH
TECHNOPATH
APPEARANCE
Tall and lean at 6’0”, he appears extra lanky due to his long legs and arms. He had a tendency to slouch though, too used to spending days in the labs hunched over his experiments that it’s become a bad habit for him. Deceptively skinny in appearance from the way he holds himself, Miharu is actually quite fit under all those layers of clothes and is muscular in a way that isn’t too excessive. He can be described as all angles, with an incredibly sharp jawline and defined shoulders. He’s not one to obsess over his body, but he knows he looks good and exercise is one way of keeping his mind alert and active. His skin is rather pale from staying indoors almost all day, and he burns in the sun quite frequently as he always forgets about sunscreen when he does venture out.
His hair is a dark sakura pink in colour and feathery soft to the touch. Girls seem to obsess over touching his hair, which is why he wears a beanie to discourage petting. He usually wears it in a naturally tousled style, allowing strands of varying length to frame the shape of his face, down to his neck. He uses very little styling product to maintain his hair, making it more unruly throughout the day.
His eyes are mostly green with some blue pigmentation, the exact shade varying in different lights. Predominantly, they will show up as light green in colour. The shape of his eyes are quite angular and slanted, giving him a dopey look when he’s particularly tired. However Miharu is also the kind of narrow-eyed glares, particularly handy when scaring off boys away from his sister.
His everyday work uniform is quite boring, described as very ‘teacher like’ by his fellow colleagues, consisting of a buttoned up shirt, fitted pants and a lab coat thrown over the top. If it’s colder, he may throw on a cashmere sweater underneath the coat. He only wears glasses when he’s working. Miharu does have a military uniform as well which he wears for more formal occasions. His casual wardrobe is completely the opposite and consists of more streetwear styled clothes. He tends to favour fitted jeans with pops of colour, hooded jackets, v-neck shirts and turtle-necks. Accessories include wristbands, gloves, beanies and belts with chains. The man loves a good tie and will always find a way to incorporate that into his outfit, whether it is casual or working. He is also a sneakerhead and has a large stash of collectible sneakers which he takes good care of.
Despite being a technopath and being all for the advancement of technology, Miharu prefers to carry a traditional wakizashi short sword to defend himself. He is well train in wielding the sword and is not one to be trifled with when threatened.
In addition to his sword, Miharu tends to carry a lot of technological knickknacks in his pockets. Everyday items converted into more useful functionality which he can flick on using his powers such as headphones with enhanced listening capabilities, or deceptively normal sunglasses which are in fact smart glasses that can connect him to any network he comes across. He is currently experimenting with Maquna and looking at how it can be weaponised.

PERSONALITY
MAIN ABILITY: Technopath
Miharu is an extremely capable technopath and is publicly acknowledge for his skills. He has a deep connection to technology and can create, shape and manipulate it to his will. He can mentally engage or ‘morph’ with the interface of any technical device, allowing him access to their data, programming and electrical impulses which flow through them. He learnt programming languages in order to help with his mental hacking, allowing him to break through even the toughest of firewalls given enough time. He is at his strongest when he is physically touching the machine in question, however Miharu has no trouble with controlling anything within his field of vision, relying on his secondary abilities to 'connect' with those pieces of technology out of his physical reach. Not much can get past him.
In a fight, he can manipulate the technology around him to control the flow of the fight. This can include overloading circuits to cause electrical shocks and sparks or activating nearby machinery to attack with.
SECOND HAND ABILITIES: Ultraviolet Vision, Intangibility
Thanks to the influence of his technopathic abilities, Miharu’s ultraviolet vision manifests in the form of electromagnetic vision. He can perceive the world around him solely on the patterns of magnetic and electrical energy and is an ability he has learnt to switch ‘on’ and ‘off’. This ability comes in handy when he is experimenting with new creations, letting him predict the flow of electricity, and more importantly, whether it will blow up in his face or not.
His other secondary ability is intangibility, allowing him to move through solid objects at will. This is particularly useful in experiments gone wrong.
PERSONALITY: Miharu is a generally laidback person when it comes to most things, taking things as they come and generally not stressing the small stuff. Behind his relaxed persona, however, is a shrewd and constantly active mind which is constantly always on the move, making observations of the world around him or puzzling over his most latest challenge. He sees more than he lets on, and seems to take great pleasure in having people underestimate him and his mind. A certifiable genius, Miharu’s first love is science and understanding the way things work. As such, he has an insatiable appetite for knowledge and will go out of his way to experiment and explore the possibilities once he’s stuck on a thought.
His aloofness seems to attract people of all types towards him, particularly girls for reasons he cannot understand (and hasn’t bothered trying to understand). He’s cocky and arrogant, and certainly has no trouble with knocking someone he finds troublesome down a few peg if he has to.
His work and personal spaces seem to be the very person of ‘organised chaos’ as he’s usually preoccupied with his thoughts, he doesn’t take much care in cleaning and organising the things around him. Yet if asked, he would know exactly where that piece of paper with the particular formula is, so many have learnt to just let him be unless one wants an angry technopath on the warpath for messing with his things. That being said, he does have a tendency to procrastinate on more trivial tasks which don’t interest him and will drag his feet when asked to do something he doesn’t want to do.
Due to the nature of his work, Miharu tends to work more flexible hours when the inspiration strikes. Oftentimes this will mean that he will start late and work all the way into the middle of the night. He is a night owl through and through and absolutely hates being woken up early in the morning. He’s an absolute grouch about it and does not get along well with those chirpy morning people. Due to his irregular sleeping cycle, Miharu could be often found napping at all hours of the day.
When it comes to his loved ones and those he cares about, Miharu has a protective streak a mile wide and is as clingy as a panda to a bamboo tree. When it comes to his beloved sister Akairi, however, Miharu is an absolute tyrant when it comes to her health and well-being. His sister-complex can be a bit overboard and he is the very definition of over-protective, but one of the things that scares him the most in this world is losing her. Miharu takes great pleasure in chasing off anyone who shows more than a friendly interest towards his sister and can be overbearingly clingy when she is around, much to her annoyance. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her and he is determined to make sure no one steals her away from him.
Romantically, he’s been involved with a few different girls (and even the occasional guy) in the past before, though none of whom have been particularly good to him. They date him because of his looks and his aloof nature, wanting to be the one that would crack that persona of his and having the perfect ‘trophy boyfriend’. The girls always want the same thing, which he quickly grows bored of. He doesn’t particularly care for romances or those cliché things that couples do, he wants someone that interests him intellectually and match him in that regard, to challenge him. He just hasn’t found the one yet.

HISTORY
Miharu was born kicking and screaming only five minutes after his elder twin, Mikhail. His parents, Serena and Eiji Sumeragi, were both affluent members of the Subhuman Government and as such he and his brother spent a lot of their childhood in and out of military bases and government institutions. The twins were inseparable for the majority of their childhood, getting up to mischief and trouble the moment they were left alone. The troublesome duo became the troublesome trio when their youngest sister, Akairi was born, with both twins smitten the first time they laid eyes on the tiny baby.
It would become apparent quite early on in their lives that the twins were gifted individuals, both demonstrating an intelligence well advance for children their age. Where Mikhail excelled in linguistics and interpersonal skills, Miharu was fascinated with logic-mathematics and puzzles. Many expected the twins to follow in their parents footsteps, with Mikhail following their father into the Army and Miharu following their mother to the Research and Development department. Both parents, though proud, were insistent on letting them choose their own paths when they were older.
Mikhail and Miharu were often troublemakers at school, seeking the next bout of trouble they could get into without getting caught. School was easy for them, with their parents hiring private tutors in order to challenge their academic learning. Miharu didn’t take any of their tutors seriously, preferring to learn on his own often through experiments. He also found that physical activity helped with his restlessness to distract his mind, and ended up taking up martial arts and soccer as a hobby in elementary school.
On the twin’s ninth birthday tragedy struck when their mother suddenly collapsed in the middle of their party. She was rushed to hospital, but no one, not even the best healers could tell what was the reason behind her sudden illness. Her condition deteriorated too quickly despite the treatment she received, passing away just a few days after Akairi’s sixth birthday.
Their mother’s death was difficult on the entire family, their father suddenly left widowed with three young children to take care of and although he tried his best, it wasn’t the same without the matriarch of the Sumeragi family around anymore. The twins stuck together even more and started acting out in school, becoming even more protective over their younger sister who was starting to pick fights at school.
Miharu was ten when his powers first appeared, technopathy much to his excitement as it had been his mother’s abilities. He was determined now more than ever to follow in her mother’s footsteps to make her proud. He was a quick learner, determined to experiment and push his powers to their greatest extent to figure out what he can and cannot do. His brother on the other hand, ended up inheriting Illusions from their father.
Shunojiski Academy was… not what he expected. Most of the general classes were boring, and the twins frustrated the teachers to no extent when they didn’t pay attention in class, but were still able to complete their set assignments without any difficulty, setting a bad example for the rest of the class. Most teachers learnt to just let them be as long as the quality of work didn’t suffer, but there were a few who tried to engage them further and to challenge them. Those classes were where the twins truly excelled.
They were popular at school, known for their handsome looks and devilish temperaments. That there were two of them seemed to drive the girls wild, though their fanclub was not as extensive as their upperclassman, Kei Sinclair. It was much to his annoyance that Akairi fell right into Kei’s friendship circle the moment she joined Shunojiski, thanks to her best friend Nanami who was dating Kei at the time.
It didn’t take the twins long to realise the attention Akairi received from the male population, and being the overprotective big brothers they were, they made sure to chase off anyone who so much looked at their sister wrong. Between his hacking skills as a technopath and Mikhail’s illusions, they were a formidable team. Thankfully Akairi was too oblivious to notice her brothers’ meddling, both of them making a pact not to tell her.
Trouble seems to come in threes for the Sumeragi family. In Akairi’s second year, her best friend was brutally murdered, leaving her lost and floundering. Miharu tried to be there for her as much as he could, but by then he was in his veteran years at the time and was taking an internship with the Government to work in their labs. He should have been more vigilant though in the months following. Although Akairi seemed to be recovering from Nanami’s death with the help of Kei and her friends, she was still vulnerable and that was when the Manors struck, stealing his sister away right from under their noses.
Her disappearance sent the twins and their father into a frenzy, fearing the worst. He had never been more terrified in his life, doing everything in his power to insert himself into the investigation and help follow any leads that came up regarding her kidnapping. Distracted as he was, he should have also noticed when Mikhail started acting strangely, stepping out quietly without telling anyone. It was not until hours later when Miharu realised his twin’s absence, and that he had left a digital trail of breadcrumbs for him to follow.
What he found at the end of the trail would forever haunt him, even to this day. His twin, dead and burnt beyond recognition, and his sister, traumatised and barely alive after days of captivity. He never wanted to see that look on her face ever again. She should have never been put in that situation.
The loss of their brother and the months it took for Akairi to recover from her trauma were the most difficult few months of his life. Miharu spiralled into drugs, alcohol and partying, becoming more aloof at work. Even under the influence his mind was still brilliant, so his work didn’t suffer for it and he became very skilled at hiding his hangovers from his colleagues. If anything, his creations became more creative. He created a weapon for Akairi to defend herself with, and became all the more overbearing. He had already lost Mikahil, he wasn’t about to lose her too.
After he graduated, Miharu escaped to Earth as a respite from all his angry emotions. He enrolled in University, opting for MIT as one of the most prestigious schools in Physics. He would travel between the realms quite frequently over the next few years, mostly to check up on his sister, but also to bring back with him his research and studies. Miharu ended up staying at MIT to complete his doctorate in Physics by the age of twenty-five before returning full-time to Shunojiski to work for the Subhuman Government. He was offered the position as the Head of the Maquna Creators not too longer after his return when the acting Head retired. They were all familiar with his work and were confident in his abilities to lead the department (even though he was still convinced his twin would have been a much more capable leader).
In his time as Head Creator, Miharu has led his department from strength to strength, uncovering the secrets of the maquna. On the other plus side, Akairi ended up joining the Flighters and rose quickly in the ranks to become their Second Commander, making it that much easier for him to keep tabs on her as she pretty much works in the next building. What he isn’t so impressed with, however, is how close she has been getting to certain captains…
